Montessori Europe presents:
NOCME –
National Organisation Council of Montessori Europe
What is NOCME?
NOCME is a permanent group within the association of Montessori Europe. The statutes of ME explicitly call for the constitution of such a group.
Who are the members of NOCME?
NOCME is made up of representatives from Montessori institutions, national Montessori organisations and Montessori pedagogical institutions, the only condition for taking part being that these organisations or institutions be members of Montessori Europe. Which means in effect: the Deutsche Montessori Gesellschaft (the Montessori Association of Germany) is a member of ME and thus entitled to send a delegate to the NOCME group. In the same manner a Montessori school from Sweden which is member of ME has the right to send a delegate to the group’s meetings.
Hence any institutional member of ME is entitled to take part in the NOCME meetings.
What does NOCME do?
Montessori Europe wants to build up an active and vital Montessori network in Europe. NOCME is there to assist the board of Montessori Europe in this endeavour and has two main functions: one directed inward (at the board) the other directed outward (at the network-partners in Europe).
The first function consists in providing counsel to the board members of Montessori Europe, either when the board requests such counsel or when members of NOCME feel the need to address an issue themselves.
The second function consists in working towards the aim of ME as it is expressed in its statutes, i. e. helping to build an active and vital Montessori network.
Providing counsel to Montessori Europe’s board and helping to build the network hence are the two principal functions of NOCME.
The members of NOCME meet at least once a year during ME’s annual conference. The ME-board will reserve a special time-slot for this meeting in the conference’s programme. These meetings will always be attended by at least one member of the board.
The next NOCME-meeting will take place on Saturday, 11th October 2008, in Oxford, from 2 to 3 p.m.
NOCME will be happy to welcome you there!
Rainer Völkel, Board Member of Montessori Europe.
